ST IGNATIUS/DOROTHY RICE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND - 13TH YEAR:

The St. Ignatius/Dorothy Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund has been in existence for thirteen years.  The fund was created to allow eligible students to continue receiving a Catholic Education.  The annual fees at St. Ignatius are about $8000 per student.  The scholarship fund tries to cover about fifteen to twenty percent of this for needy families.  Last year, thanks to the generosity of parishioners, part proceeds from the Christmas fundraiser, and a number of other fundraisers, we assisted nearly 40 children with over CI$41,000 total.  In return for the help the families must volunteer to work at school events during the term and the students must maintain high standards of behaviour and academic progress.  We are once again trying to assist as many families as possible, especially in light of the economic downturn.  One can never put a price tag on the value of a child’s education.  Any donations are gratefully recived.   Cheques should be made payable to ST. IGNATIUS – SAYM.   Contributions may be dropped off to May at the parish office, Kelly at the school office, or you can mail them to:

ST. IGNATIUS – SAYM, St. Ignatius Catholic Church & School, P.O. Box 2638, Grand Cayman  KY1-1102.

Golf Scramble - March 26th! PDF Print E-mail

The first ever St. Ignatius Church and School Golf Scramble took place on Friday, March 26th at the North Sound Club.  The teams of four enjoyed blue skies and calm winds with a 1:00 pm  shotgun start.  The warm temperatures were soon matched by the hot competition on the golf course!

The winning team was Joel Dodson, Andy Stepaniuk, Greg Bennett and Toni Pinkerton, with a net score of 50.75.  Second place went to Deny Edward, Mark Thompson, Steve Euston and Lito Retumban, with a net score of 53.25.  Third place went to Kirk Duval, Stephen Duval, Robert Tiofilo and Robert Ebanks, with a net score of 53.37.  All three teams won gift vouchers from the pro shop.

Closest to the pin winners were Joel Dodson on hole 9 and Dave Loomis on hole 13.  Longest drive winners were Samantha Widmer on hole 2 and Stephen Duval on hole 12.  Clay Batson won the putting contest in dramatic fashion, holing a 70 foot putt to edge out Madge Tompkins at the end of the day.  The best dressed award went to Tom Sperandeo.

After the competition the golfers received a number of prizes during the awards presentation and everyone enjoyed a nice buffet dinner catered by Signature Events.

A huge thank you to all of our our sponsors:  GT Automotive (Event Sponsor), IT Outsource Ltd., Eric Cronier Ltd., Jen International Insurance, Grant Thornton, Scotiabank. Chrissie Tomlinson Hospital, Reflections, Island Cleaners, Mr. Terry Carson, and Mrs. Deanna Lookloy.  We would also like to thank all of the prize donors as well as all the volunteers who gave up their Friday afternoon to ensure that everything ran smoothly.

We look forward to doing it again next year!
