Welcome to the ENGLISH Department! “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Albert Einstein. Key Stage 3 At KS3 we study a different unit of work each half term, which includes a prose, poetry and drama text. Teachers choose the texts to cover, according to the ability of the group and their own interests. For more information on English at Key Stage 3 please click on the following link: ENGLISH CURRICULUM OVERVIEW - KS3 We use Assessment Based Criteria for each term of work. The criteria changes each year according to which topic the teacher is teaching at that time. An example is shown here: Year 8 - Set 1 - Grade Boundaries Reading: Each student is expected to read independently at home on a regular basis; we recommend a MINIMUM of 20 minutes each day. This should be a prose text, either fiction or non-fiction (and includes comic books). The library has a great selection of books from our reading list that is added to on a regular basis. Please check the following link for further information: KS3 Reading List Key Stage 4 At KS4 we offer two courses of study: Language and Literature. Each awards a separate grade. Students cover a variety of topics and skills, complete coursework and study three texts to be examined.
